Closet Door Conundrum Design Solution

This project was to find an example of items with design elements that present usability issues to those who have to use them and then create a solution of how they could be better designed to be more usable. I went out and took pictures of several examples of these design barriers and I chose one in my own apartment to find the solution to. The closet door in the entry way and the closet that holds the washer and dryer are right next to each other with doors that open up in to each other. When one of the doors is open it is very difficult to walk between each closet which can pose a problem when you need to access both quickly. I took inspiration from other parts of the apartment a chose to use the sliding closet doors that could be found in the bedroom closets. This way it would be very easy to access both closets and do laundry without having to squeeze through the gap or keep having to open and close doors. Both doors could be left partially open to access both at the same time and someone could walk through easily without having to close the door. To present my idea I created a photoshop rendering of how the closet door would look in the space and how it might look when it is opened. I chose this over an illustration because I felt that I could better convey the solution in this way.
